Introduction to SciPy & Constants
Learn what SciPy is, how it builds upon NumPy arrays, and how to access physical, metric, and astronomical constants with scipy.constants.
What is SciPy?
SciPy (Scientific Python) is an open-source library built on top of NumPy that provides algorithms for scientific and technical computing. While NumPy gives you high-performance multi-dimensional arrays, SciPy equips you with mathematical powerhouses: numerical integration, root finding, Fourier transforms, statistics, and linear algebra.
Because SciPy uses optimized C and Fortran routines under the hood (BLAS, LAPACK, and QUADPACK), scientific scripts run at native machine speed while retaining the clean syntax of Python.
SciPy is organized into specialized submodules like scipy.optimize, scipy.integrate, scipy.linalg, and scipy.signal.
Working with Physical Constants
The scipy.constants package contains hundreds of universal mathematical and physical constants, including pi, speed of light (c), Planck constant (h), gravitational acceleration (g), and unit conversion factors.
from scipy import constants
print("Speed of light (c):", constants.speed_of_light, "m/s")
print("Planck constant (h):", constants.h, "J·s")
print("Standard gravity (g):", constants.g, "m/s²")
print("1 mile in meters:", constants.mile)
print("1 atmosphere in Pascals:", constants.atm)Set your Publisher ID in src/config/ads.ts to display live ads.
