AWS Cloud Computing Introduction & Global Infrastructure
Cloud deployment models, Regions, Availability Zones (AZs), and Edge Locations
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers globally.
The AWS Global Infrastructure Architecture
Regions: Physical geographic locations around the world (e.g. us-east-1 in N. Virginia, eu-west-1 in Ireland). Each Region is isolated and independent.
Availability Zones (AZs): Each Region contains multiple (typically 3+) discrete data centers with redundant power, networking, and connectivity, separated by meaningful physical distance to protect against localized disasters.
Edge Locations: Hundreds of global Points of Presence (PoPs) used by CloudFront (CDN) and Route 53 to deliver low-latency content to end users.
