Essential Arithmetic & Aggregation Formulas

SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, COUNTA, MIN, MAX, SUMIF, and COUNTIF

Formulas always begin with an equals sign (=). Aggregation formulas compute summaries across ranges of numbers.

Core Aggregation Functions

=SUM(A2:A50): Calculates the total arithmetic sum.

=AVERAGE(A2:A50): Calculates the mean value.

=COUNT(A2:A50): Counts cells containing numeric numbers only.

=COUNTA(A2:A50): Counts non-empty cells (both text and numbers).

=COUNTIF(range, criteria): Counts cells that satisfy a condition (e.g. =COUNTIF(C2:C50, ">100")).

=SUMIF(range, criteria, [sum_range]): Sums values meeting specified criteria.

Conditional Summing Formula
// Sum total revenue generated strictly by the "West" region
=SUMIF(B2:B100, "West", C2:C100)

// Count how many orders were over $500
=COUNTIF(C2:C100, ">500")
SUMIF and COUNTIF automate conditional aggregation without manual filtering.
